ACORDE co-organises SEMINARIO DE DEFENSA, which will bring together the leading military authorities, institutions and representatives of the Spanish space industry.
Santander will once again become a meeting point to analyse the strategic role of space in security and defence with the celebration of the XVIII Space Seminar, a landmark event that will bring together representatives of the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence, European institutions and the national space industry over three days.
This year’s edition, co-organised by ACORDE and Hisdesat, reflects the consolidation of a strong, innovative and resilient national space and defence industry.
In this XVIII edition, the Seminar will analyse the factors that originate in the space domain, or are influenced by it, and which are acting as drivers of change both in Defence operations and in the industrial sphere.
The opening will be led by the Secretary of State and the Admiral General serving as Chief of the Defence Staff (JEMAD), giving way to a first session focused on the role of space within multi-domain integration. Senior military authorities will address how this new operational domain is gaining growing influence over the other domains, and how this evolution affects the processes for acquiring the critical capabilities required for National Defence and Security.
The challenge of building sovereign space capabilities
The second day will focus on the main national and European Union space programmes with defence applications, as well as on the development of the industrial capabilities Spain needs to respond to the new strategic scenario.
Representatives of the Ministry of Defence and of the national space industries will analyse the evolution of these programmes and the new industrial space capabilities envisaged in the Defence Industrial Strategy (EID 2023).
The session will also address the technological and R&D&I capabilities set out in the Defence Technology and Innovation Strategy (ETID 2026), in a context marked by technological acceleration, the need to strengthen European strategic autonomy and the growing value of space as a critical infrastructure for security.
For ACORDE, as a technology company embedded in this ecosystem, the event also represents an opportunity to share knowledge, industrial vision and operational needs, contributing to the essential dialogue between those who develop technological capabilities and those who must put them to use.
Industry, innovation and strategic autonomy
The third day will feature representatives of the European Commission, the Ministries of Industry and Science and the Elcano Royal Institute, before giving way to two round tables in which the top executives of Spanish space industry companies will analyse the challenges and opportunities currently facing the sector.
The participating companies will also share their views on the new strategic plans they are drawing up to respond to a scenario shaped by the national, European and NATO strategies on security and defence.
